wool felted bags inspired by watercolor technique - handmade, wet felted, dry felted

Watercolor technique is a combination of wet and dry felting.

Here are some of my experiments inspired by watercolor and other methods.

What I find the most interesting in felting is the endless possibility of mixing techniques and ideas. I often browse the net looking for another great wool felt art work to get inspired and learn from someone's experience. But I don't like to follow somebody else's path -
-I rather find my own way.

This pictorial felt comes from a bag I hand felted a while ago. I inlayed some beautiful merino wool in colors of turquoise, different shades of green, petrol, mint, yellow, and tones from purple to lily-white and  different colors of silk and wet felted the whole picture. Then I used the felting needle to dry felt.
Combining different methods gives another quality to the picture. That doesn't mean - pictures without watercolor - wet felted only - are any worse. Absolutely not. They're different. And I like the variety. The method, or a combination of methodes I choose for a specific project depends on the effect I want to achieve. But felt is very forgiving and it allows me to change my mind even in the middle of the felting process.
In my case, the more I enjoy felting a project, the better result.

This is my latest little bag hand felted using both techniques - wet and dry.

It's seamless,  with orchides on both sides of the bag
- which you're actually  unable to see on this pictures -
made of merino wool, some silk, linen and bamboo treads in a mix of colors.

Just to show, how different ideas I like to combine in my felt work, here is an image of another of my bags. It's not finished yet. This time I wet felted a romantic picture of orchides in beautiful shades of green, lilac and yellow and after the piece was all dry, I machine stiched it building new patterns of flowers and leaves on the colorful felt flower bed. I used some stiching before and I think it adds other flavors to any felt project.
And I love the colors.
