Red poppies, brooches and a small black felted purse - all handmade and wet felted

Red poppies and my personal Kodac moment...

Have you ever experienced looking at a field of blooming poppies? Bright red carpet of flowers takes your breath away. Because poppies are magical and fragile like all wild flowers that I always appreciate the most.

I admired some beautiful poppies growing  by a side road from the window of our car once, and the next morning they were blossoming on my table in a vase. It was a very special mother's day morning and to catch the moment I felted this picture thinking of somebody, who drove at dawn just to get the flowers and make my day. I gave it to my Mom later on. The felted image doesn't get even close to the perfection of mother nature's but red poppies will always be a great inspiration to me.

I often felt poppy flowers as a brooch. You have already noticed that brooches are my favorite kind of jewelery. Every brooch I make, however is different, in kind of wool, in shape and number of petals, shade of red. I like to use black silk and tiny black beads for the center of the flower.

Poppy brooches are excellent to go with a bag as well.

Here is a black little felt number with red poppies.
It's elegant and  small - but big enough to hold your phone, keys, a small wallet and your favourite lipstick.
You don't always need to carry your XXL bag after all.

The lining inside looks kind of fancy, black with a flowery pattern, zipped, and beaded all around. The purse is wet felted, seamless, made of Polish black wool and the flowers are bright red merino wool with just a touch of silk. Black beads in the middle, two poppies with double row of petals.

Brooches are a kind of jewelery you can wear anyway you please. Even on a gloomy day they make me feel pretty special. They are also an excellent gift idea. Speaking of which, lots of felting projects ahead of me, because Christmas is coming...
